Common Questions / FAQS

» What is the mission of the Walpole Express Girls Hockey Program?
The Express are about teaching girls why we play the game! It comes from within. It’s not about getting the most goals or being the all star. It’s a deep passion to learn that comes from the heart. It’s about working as a team to reach a common goal and having respect that allows us to bring out the best in each other. We promote player development for ALL players. Each coach plays all players equal and gives them ALL confidence and knowledge in each game. There is no power play or penalty killing units. In order to develop players must be put in every situation of a game.

» Who can play for the Express?
The organization exists to provide girls from Walpole and surrounding towns to learn and excel at the game of hockey in a positive, fun and competitive environment. While our home rink is located there, players do not have to be from Walpole.

» What is included in my childs tuition?
Tuition for the season includes a 25 game regular season as well as a playoffs (running from early September through mid March). There are two practices per week (Wednesday & Saturday night's), one weekly skills session (Tuesday night's) with RB Hockey School. Also included is the Girls Thanksgiving Tournament played at the Iorio Arena.

» What league do the Express play in?
The Express Girls play in the exceptionally well organized Middlesex Yankee Conference. The league offers four divisions including U10, U12, U14, and a half season for U19. The league consists of approximately 107 teams, broken down into four divisions (based on age and ability). Parity rounds make games as competitive as possible.

» Where are the games played?
Home games for the Walpole Express are played at the Iorio Arena in Walpole, MA. Away games are played at various locations including the most common venues (but not limited too): Canton Ponkapoag, Nobles, Acton/Boxboro, Natick W. Suburban, Umass Boston, and Hockey Town in Saugus. Directions to both the Iorio Arena and away game locations can be found on our Rink Directions page.

» Can my player come to a different time for skills?
Unfortunately this is not possible. We have 5 teams booked on each hour of skills. All players must attend skills at their assigned times.

» Do players need mouthguards (including goalies)?
Mouthguards are necessary. A player without one will be asked to leave the ice until they get one.

» Can my player bring her own water bottle over to the bench?
Players are permitted to bring their own water bottles to bench. The Express provide clean water bottles, however we would never stop a player from bringing their own. Please note that the player is responsible for her own water bottle.

» Will players be receiving helmet stickers?
We do not make families buy particular helmets or pants (shells), however we do ask that all players wear Walpole Express decals on their helmets to represent our team in the league. Players in the U16/19 division will not be asked to wear decals.

» Will coaches be posting game reviews on the website?

Yes. Our all new website will feature game write ups (reviews) which will be posted every Monday afternoon along with Player of the Game and scores from the weekend. All teams will have their own team page.

» Will team and individual pictures be taken?
Team and Individual photos will be taken in or around September. Everyone will be notified with the details as soon as it becomes available. Photos will be taken by Flash Powder Photo.
